At this location,
the dense clay is in multicolored layers, all containing
artifact material.
Below: A
few cm from the area shown above, the effect of such dense packing can be
seen in plant material about
60 cm (2') down, just above the black layer, still green for a while after exposure.
For whatever reason, the brown mass at the left end had a dis-
tinctly excrement-like odor while still moist.
