Summer 1987
The first
artifact recognized - a simple bifacial hand axe (or
"chopper" or hoe or whatever) that
appeared partially buried on the "driveway" up the
knob after years of grading and erosion, about 25 cm (10")
beneath the surrounding surface level. (Author's youngest daughter
included for scale.)
In the background
and 27 m (90') below is the 220+ year old pioneer road following
an ancient "Indian" trail along the ridge, itself 90 m
(300') above the surrounding terrain.
